In reprisal to the new US sanction on Russian, President Vladimir Putin announced that 755 from leaving the US diplomatic missions.
Putin made the decision on Friday but has now confirmed the development saying the 755 must go by September 1.
The expulsion will reduce the number of staff level to 455, which is same as Russia’s in the US.
“more than 1,000 people were working and are still working” at the U.S. embassy and consulates, and that “755 people must stop their activities in Russia, Putin said.”
Staff in the embassy in Moscow, as well as the consulates in Ekaterinburg, Vladivostok and St. Petersburg, are affected.
The BBC’s Sarah Rainsford in Moscow said the number includes Russian employees of the U.S. diplomatic missions across Russia.
President Putin said he wished there was a way that he did not want to impose more measures but concluded say he could not see the ties changing anytime soon.
